Mapmerge: merge genomic maps

چکیده

MOTIVATION When two or more genomic maps of a chromosomal region are available, it is useful to be able to synthesize them to create a merged map. RESULTS We show that map merging is an exploratory process because there are multiple ways to combine data based upon what the user wishes to focus on, and upon which particular data subset emphasis is desired. We describe Mapmerge, a program for merging two genomic maps, discuss its limitations, and illustrate an example of its use. AVAILABILITY Freely available (ANSI C source code, a Make file, test data files, documentation) on request from the author. CONTACT [email protected]

A New Split and Merge Algorithm with Topological Maps

Usually, segmentation algorithms implementing the split and merge operations are restricted to a split stage followed by a merge stage. In this paper, we present a new split and merge algorithm combining alternatively split and merge operations at each recursive step. This algorithm is based on a data structure encoding topological maps in a discrete plane. The topogical maps of an image are de...

Split-and-merge algorithms defined on topological maps for 3D image segmentation

Split-and-merge algorithms define a class of image segmentation methods. Topological maps are a mathematical model that represents image subdivisions in 2D and 3D. This paper discusses a split-and-merge method for 3D image data based on the topological map model. This model allows representations of states of segmentations and of merge and split operations. Indeed, it can be used as data struct...

SyMAP: A system for discovering and viewing syntenic regions of FPC maps.

Previous approaches to comparing gene and chromosome organization between two genomes have been based on genetic maps or genomic sequences. We have developed a system to align an FPC-based physical map to a genomic sequence based on BAC end sequences and sequence-tagged hybridization markers and to align two FPC maps to one another based on shared markers and fingerprints. The system, called Sy...

Visual Maps: To Merge or Not To Merge

A recent study of a child born with one cerebral hemisphere has revealed an extreme developmental reorganization of visual cortex. Self-organizing visual maps demonstrate a surprisingly flexible restructuring in response to cortical loss.
